Use data to establish needs. If your student achievement data show that math and science are the weak areas then start there. Start small and buildConsider aligning your technology initiatives to an instructional framework. We use LoTi (Levels of Teaching Innovation). This helps to ensure that you are using technology in ways that add value to instruction. We do a H.E.A.T check on successes.lessons with technology involved to look for:
Higher order thinking opportunities for students
Engaged learning--is the learning student centered and meaningful?
Authenticity--is the learning connected to the "real world"?
Technology--is the use of technology integral to the learning or merely and add on? Does the technology add value to the instruction?
Explore technology options that are inexpensive or free (this wiki for example is free)
Start small and build on successes. There is way more technology options out there than you have time to explore. Pick something that meets an instructional need and implement it successfully. Then build on that.
Consider incorporating 21st century learning standards in your plan to make sure you are addressing the skills students will need to be competitive in college and beyond. This is more for the big picture. If you don't have an ed tech program at all then this will be information overload. The idea is to be aware and try to make a few connections.
